Planchada (‘ironed’) Bean

Alternative names: Alubia planchada Traditionally cultivated in León in Spain, this pole bean is prized for its excellent taste and texture and fine skin. The beans are flattened in shape, giving them their name.

Spanish Rice Bean

Alternative names: Alubia Arrocina A very small white bean with a creamy texture, traditionally grown in the north of Spain. This bean is considered to be easy to digest and is a good bean to introduce to children.

Blauhilde

This pole bean is generally grown for its pods, which are long and dark purple in colour and produces in abundance. They are best picked when still young and tender. A hardy, rustic variety. Then dried beans are small and beige coloured and can be used as an all purpose bean.

Black Tolosan

Alternative names: Alubia Tolosana Negra A productive pole bean with large round black seeds which are excellent in stews. Traditionally grown in the Basque Country of northern Spain.

Alternative names: Alubia Tolosana Roja A productive pole bean with dark red seeds which are excellent in stews. Traditionally grown in the Basque Country in northern Spain.

Stevenson Lima

A small-sized, fast growing lima which produces clusters of many small pods filled with speckled seeds.

Succotash Bean (out of stock)

A very unusual pole bean with dark purple seeds that look like grains of corn. Said to be first cultivated by the Narragansett Indian tribe of Rhode Island. Quite hard to find, especially in Europe.

Hagnauer Red (out of stock)

Alternative names: hagaver, hagnauer rot A hardy bush bean which produces long slim pods filled with bright pink beans. Very productive due to the large number of beans in each pod and short growing time. A good choice for cooler climates or areas with short summers.

Elephant Bean (out of stock)

Alternative names: Judión This is a phaseolus coccineus, which means it can be perennial in the right climates. although it looks similar to a white lima, it is much fatter, and the taste is quite different. It is excellent cooked with tomato sauce, or in stews. One of the largest and tastiest beans around.

A large seeded bush bean. Before drying, the seeds are bright pink speckled with red. On drying, they become darker, but still just as beautiful.

Bosnian Yellow

A very unusual climbing bean which produces thick, tender yellow pods and bright yellow beans. Yellow coloured beans are uncommon in general, and are even rarer as climbing beans. Very productive and easy to grow.

Dragon Tongue

A bush bean traditionally grown for its large, tender, and exceptionally beautiful pods. The pods are ready to eat in less than three months, and are produced in abundance. An excellent choice for those with small spaces or short summers. Of course, the dry beans can also be stored and eaten later on.

Speckled Empress Lima
